OK. To assuage the sting of BB's final comment in his 12/23 lessons learned list, I've decided to try a post to see if the guilt subsides.
(This could already be happening. Maybe I just haven't seen this on the web or TV yet)
But in light of the writer's strike, how come no one has done a script writing contest? In the day of YouTube, people getting discovered via the web, and bloggers getting the scoop on major news outlets - I'm sure there are plenty of aspiring screenwriters and creative people to make something like this a success.
Even though it may be just for a handful of episodes, I'm sure someone would love to have the opportunity. Who knows, it could be more for some.
They could:
1. advertise on the web (myspace, blogs, etc), via commercials on network television, and radio.
2. collect scripts via mail/e-mail (yes, it would be a headache for the screeners, but it's the entertainment biz, right?)
3. narrow down to 3-5 script ideas
4. let the viewers vote on which script(s) they like
5. get the announcers with the big voices to hype it up, "This is what YOU chose. Tune in to see..."
The whole thing would virtually promote itself the way people blog and participate in virtual communities. The key would be to make it as interactive as possible.
That's it. Just a thought. My 2 cents. (well, actually my wife mentioned it to me. i've just been thinking about how clever it would be. so, my 1 cent??)
